Who we are
Cinemaguys.com was founded by Jean-Pierre Salazar & Greg
Coppola back in the spring of 2006, but their friendship
began much earlier, during their college days in the year
2000.
They met at Gibbs College where Jean-Pierre worked as a
teacher assistant and Greg was a student. Jean-Pierre helped
Greg with his graphic design classes for that whole
semester—they became very good friends. Suddenly they
noticed that they shared a hobby; both of them were movie
lovers. Fortunately, Greg knew a manager at a local theater
so they could go as much as they like. They didn’t miss that
opportunity and watched many movies that year.
Going to the movies, hanging out at a diner and discussing
the shows became a tradition that hasn’t been broken for
seven years—not even weather would stop them. During those
years, they have visited more than ten theaters and watch
hundreds of movies. Movies was just a hobby until an
opportunity came up.
In April of 2006, Greg came up with an idea of creating a
movie website. A place where they could give their honest,
neutral and professional opinions of the movies they’ve
seen—they’ve been doing it for years, but this time those
reviews will be published on their website for everyone to
read. Besides being critics, Jean-Pierre had a web design
background, and Greg had an eye for art. Both of them
combined their skills and the website began to take shape.
The Cinemaguys.com website was finally finished and released
in early 2007. "Cinemaguys DinerTalk Podcast Show" was created in 2008.
Our Rating System:
Enter at your own risk (1 to 3):
This is a
film you must avoid. Almost nothing works: no entertainment value,
bad story, terrible visuals and sometimes, not even for a rental.
Proceed with caution (4 to 6):
A
mediocre film that might entertain some moviegoers or a
specific audience. Often we like some of these films,
but they are not good enough to be on the next level.
Permission Granted (7 to 10):
A
great film that you cannot miss. It contains all the
right ingredients to entertain you.
Jean-Pierre Salazar - Co-Founder
Jean-Pierre Salazar is the lead designer, film
critic, Podcast producer and webmaster of
Cinemaguys.com. He is a Peruvian who came to the
States at the age of 17. He’s been working in the
web design field for 7 years. He's been also a movie
guy since childhood, but became more interested in
movie criticism when he met Greg back in the summer
of 2000. Since that year, Jean-Pierre has written
dozens of reviews before the DinerTalk show.
Together, they have seen hundreds of movies in
theaters. In 2003, both watched almost 90 movies (a
movie record he is trying to break again). Greg and
Jean-Pierre go to movies weekly, a ritual that has
become a tradition. Jean-Pierre is always checking
every aspect, every detail of everything he sees on
screen.
“Movies are a great part of my life, they are works
of art, there is a lot of thinking, hard work and
dedication in them,” he says “I love to appreciate
every aspect in a movie like plot, acting,
cinematography and so forth, and I always give my
honest opinion when I write my reviews.” He believes
a good balance between all those aspects creates a
better film. “Movies are meant to entertain and
inform, whether is an action flick or a documentary,
they make us escape from our everyday lives, and
that’s a cool thing,” he added.
Jean-Pierre enjoys (besides movies) exercising,
boxing, photography, writing, spending time in book
stores, designing and European cars.

Greg Coppola - Co-Founder
Or as his friends call him, “Godzilla Greg” is a
film critic and a podcaster who has an absolute love
for cinema. Greg has watched over 550 movies since
the year 2000 and counting. He grew up in Bridgeport
CT. As a child, he constantly was in front of the TV
set whether at home, or his Grandparents which back
in the 70’s was basically the only thing to do. He
loved to watch anything that was on the
tube—especially horror, fantasy, and Godzilla
movies. Today, Greg still lives in Bridgeport, where
he reviews movies and has a podcast show called "Cinemaguys
DinerTalk" for Cinemaguys.com. When not reviewing
movies, he works for the YMCA (primarily with
children and swimming instruction), as a freelance
caricature artist and Sunday school teacher.
“I love movies and they are a big part of my life.
Movies are great because they give us everything
from drama action, and so much more—they simply
entertain us. When writing about movies it gives me
the opportunity to express my personal thoughts
about the movie, and not just a simply summary and
opinions like some critics—being honest is an
important attribute in our profession."
He continues, "Cinemaguys.com satisfies my need to
express myself because movies nowadays are just not
what they used to be. However, there are those few
exceptions. I need to tell the movie fans from
across the world which movies are worth spending
their hard earned money on, or not.”

They always patronize the same theaters. They never chow down on the popcorn or slurp any frozen drinks. And they always arrive with a tape recorder.
